This fall, the city of Vancouver is going to begin installing new bicycle racks all over town.

Instead of the usual spiral or triangle shapes that characterize your usual boring bike racks, it's held a design competition. Today (August 7) the finalists were announced and now the city wants your input.

There are six prototypes. They're called North Shore Mountains," "Guard Bird," "Chickadee-dee-dee," "Petal Rack," "Definitely Raining," and "Living Leaf."

All six will be on display at four locations around Vancouver from August 13 to 16.

You can find them at Adanac and Vernon Plaza on August 13, at Arbutus Greenway & 10th Avenue on August 14, at 800 Robson Street on August 15, and at Helena Gutteridge Plaza on August 16.

Plans for all six designs can also be viewed online.

“We have seen some very creative bike rack designs submitted by talented Vancouver residents all with a vision of making our public spaces more beautiful and interesting, while providing safe and secure places for people to park their bikes. We are so excited to be at the final stage of this competition,” Margaret Wittgens, the city of Vancouver's director of public space and street use, said today quoted in a media release. “Residents can have fun viewing and testing the prototypes, and voting for their favourite design.”
