Some of the best-known TV newspeople in the province—including Sophie Lui, Chris Gailus, and Keith Baldrey—will soon have a new boss.

That's because Bhupinder Hundal has been appointed as news director and station manager of Global B.C., filling a position vacated by Jill Krop on September 30.

Hundal, a former senior producer in the CBC TV newsroom in Vancouver, begins on December 15 at Global.

He's a former assignment editor and news manager at OMNI in Vancouver.

But to many, Hundal is best known as the commentator on the popular Punjabi-language Hockey Night in Canada broadcasts from 2014 to 2018.

One of the keys to the program's success was the sense of fun that Hundal and the play-by-play commentator, Harnarayan Singh, brought to the broadcasts.

It remains to be seen if the Global B.C. News Hour will demonstrate more of that type of masalalike razzle dazzle with Hundal in charge.

He joins Global in its 60th year of delivering news to British Columbians on the News Hour.

Global B.C. is owned by Corus Entertainment, a Toronto Stock Exchange–listed corporation that also has 39 radio stations and 15 television stations.
