The federal Green party has nominated a candidate in Vancouver Kingsway with three master's degrees and two PhDs.

Atmospheric, climate, and earth observation scientist Farrukh Chishtie is a member of the Global Precipitation Mission validation project, which is being overseen by Environment and Climate Change Canada in collaboration with NASA.

In a party news release, Chishtie maintained that every vote cast for the Greens in Vancouver Kingsway will affect political dialogue in the riding.

"Our presence has forced the other parties to adjust their platforms—but voting Green is the only sure way to achieve real action on the climate change emergency and its present and future impacts," Chishtie said.

Vancouver Kingsway has been held by NDP health critic Don Davies since 2008. Virginia Bremner is running for the Liberals and Carson Binda is running for the Conservatives. People's Voice editor Kimball Cariou is the Communist candidate, according to votemate.org.

The People's Party of Canada website lists Jeremy MacKenzie as its candidate in Vancouver Kingsway, though there's no biographical information included.

In June, the Straight reported that PPC Leader Maxime Bernier had promoted the Instagram feed of a vlogger in Nova Scotia named Jeremy Mackenzie, who once described the Nuremberg Trials as a "kangaroo court".

Devyani Singh is making her second attempt at being elected after being defeated by David Eby in Vancouver–Point Grey in the 2020 provincial election.

Climate scientist running in Vancouver Quadra

Chishtie, the Green deputy critic on climate, is the second climate scientist to be nominated in Vancouver for his party.

The Green candidate in Vancouver Quadra, Devyani Singh, is also a scientist with a PhD who works on energy and climate policy.

She's been a postdoctoral fellow at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

She works with one of the world's leading experts on methane emissions, Arvind Ravikumar, who's moving his research team to the University of Texas in Austin in September.

Singh has lived in Vancouver Quadra for several years. Her research interests are technology assessment and methane-emissions policy.

"As your MP, I will be committed to find implementable solutions through community consultation and scientific research," Singh said on the Green website.
