The owner of Bentall Centre wants to add a new building at the premier downtown Vancouver office complex.

Hudson Pacific Properties has filed an application with city hall to develop a 16-storey building at 1025 Dunsmuir Street.

The planned office building will replace the existing Thurlow Parkade at the corner of Thurlow and Eveleigh streets.

A design rationale that forms part of the application states that the development will be “integrated into the existing Bentall Centre complex”.

“It will symbolize a renewal, and is the most prominent component of many ongoing interventions that will preserve the important legacy of the Bentall Centre as a premier office complex,” the document explains.

The design rationale also talks about an improvement of the public realm.

“Retail spaces at the first two levels of the building and carefully considered landscape design, aim to activate more fully the corner of Thurlow and Eveleigh, while also increasing pedestrian accessibility, porosity through the site and increased connectivity to the surrounding neighbourhood,” the document notes.
