The search for a pair of men who went missing on Vancouver Island has ended in tragic news. 

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) confirmed today (June 29) that the remains of two individuals discovered by a woman walking her dog in the Ucluelet area are of 43-year-old Ryan Daley and 37-year-old Daniel Archibald from Squamish, who had gone missing in May.

The VIIMCU, which had taken over the case which they regarded as suspicious, had announced on June 18 that they were investigating the remains that had been reported the previous week though. For investigative reasons, the details of where and when the remains were found were withheld.

The pair had docked a boat at Ucluelet Small Craft Harbour on May 13 and were last seen on surveillance footage that captured them leaving by foot on May 16. CBC News reported that they had completed an eight-week sailing trip from Panama and were heading to Jordan River, where Daley owns a property.

The circumstances of their disappearance are still under investigation and their deaths are being treated as homicide rather than accidental.

RCMP once again pointed out that there is no evidence that connects this case with the disappearance of 41-year-old Benjamin John Kilmer, who went missing on the same day but near Duncan, B.C., on the east side of Vancouver Island.

VIIMCU inspector Dave Hall stated in a news release that the spreading of false information or linkages between the cases through online means, such as social media, is complicating the investigation, and police emphasized the need to respect the privacy of the victim's loved ones.
