Best supporting actress Oscar: Felicidades, Penelope Cruz!

In spite of the stiff competition she faced in the best supporting actress category, Penélope Cruz took the award for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Her acceptance speech was in English and Spanish, and she talked about how she came from a small Spanish town in which going to the Oscars one day was never a realistic dream.

On the red carpet, interviewer Ben Mulroney asked if she felt pressured by having an entire country pin their hopes on one person. She said that it was thrilling but she knew what it meant to her country.

The award was presented by five actresses, including Whoopi Goldberg, Tilda Swinton, and Goldie Hawn.

Goldberg had the most laughs with the line when introducing Doubt's Amy Adams: "It's not easy being a nun."

Goldberg's presence serves as a reminder that while Hugh Jackman is doing a good job, he doesn't have the same kind of presence, flair, or personality that comedians often do.
