Kerfoot faces hefty property taxes

The City of Vancouver's two-year planning demands for Gastown's proposed Whitecaps soccer stadium will likely cost the team close to $1 million in property tax alone. That amount represents how much Whitecaps owner Greg Kerfoot will have to pay while the city deliberates on the proposal.

Jason Grant, the assessor for the Vancouver Sea to Sky region for BC Assessment, told the Straight that Kerfoot's waterfront property is worth $21.9 million in 2006. The city's tax department confirmed that property taxes were $407,536.87 in 2006. They have been paid in full.

Since 2005, the property's value has jumped $4.9 million from $17 million.
