Sometimes I think it's just me

I've always been that guy in work who can solve any issue. People are always coming up to me and asking "Do you know how this works?" "Can you fix this?" or something else. It's not that I'm some genius, just that I know how to look at a problem and start to come up with solutions. In most cases I have no clue what to do but as I start to look at the problem the solution presents itself. Because of this I really can't understand why so many others at work can't do the same thing. We live in a time when heaps of information is right at our fingertips yet people are dumb as rocks.

I'm in a similar situation at my job. I usually just google the solution if I can't figure it out myself. I tend to think the person who needs the help is too feeble to Google it themselves even though they generally act insulted if they see ME googling the answer for them: "You're using Google?! I could have done THAT." Yeah, no shit, but you didn't, you feeble pleb.

Lazy

is what they are. Others could figure out the solutions if they wanted but it's so much easier to have you do it. People have become lazy. I see it all the time.

Maybe not so dumb....

after all, where I work the competent and the willing get dumped on with ALL the work, doesn't hurt to "play" dumb sometimes.
Work is a political game and not all skill, sucks but I play with the hand as it's dealt!

if you save your mean comments about the rocks.
Rocks aren't dumb. They're beautiful...and they hold loads of information.

I'm the same way and I advise you to stop doing what you're doing because half the people that are asking for your help are just too damn lazy to do it themselves. Stop enabling their laziness and your life will be much better (unless it's your job, like it is mine, then I guess you're stuck).

Depends

Like so many other people I also work an extremely demanding job where I’m running like a mad person for hours a day. I have my own specific duties that I’m paid to accomplish, and there’s often not enough hours in the day to get it all done. My duties don’t include maintaining the office equipment. Therefore, when it breaks down or requires other maintenance, I expect the people who DO have that as part of their job duties to do it. I’m not lazy. I’m not dumb. I simply believe that they don’t pay me to maintain the photocopier, so I don’t.

Types of intelligence

Some people have the proclivity to problem solve based on their genes and upbringing.

I'm an average problem solver but my emotional intelligence and social intelligence are higher than average. I have terrible mechanical intelligence.

I do agree some people are lazy and some uninterested in being well rounded but sometimes you are just the right person for the job! Be thankful that you have this skill!

You need help in developing your compassion and empathy if you think you're just smarter than everyone else or they are choosing to be unintelligent. You need to improve your ability to enforce your boundaries if you are getting resentful over this. Why wouldn't you decline helping someone unless you wanted to help them? Perhaps because your strength is problem solving and not interacting with people. Meanwhile, I'd be less helpful problem solving but I'd know how to offer support and encouragement in how to go about learning to problem solve.

It takes all types to make a world. You aren't better, just different.

Anyone who commented "I'm the same", I'd love to hire you to replace all the dumbfucks at my work who can't figure out how to do anything if they haven't had 100 hours of training on it first.
