Sympathy

I asked the boss to give a little thank you speech to the staff today for Admin Professionals Day. Normally, he's really good about it but he sent me an email back, telling me he had to put his dog down yesterday evening and it was much harder than he thought it was going to be, so he was going to stick to his office today. I want to go into his office and give him a hug.

Meanwhile we put our dog down last week and nobody mourning her got any time to reflect at our jobs. How nice to be able to choose not to do your job when you feel like it. Animals are more important to your boss then the feelings of the human beings who make it possible for him to have a job? I'm sure he could have asked someone to prepare a statement on his behalf to release but he is busy making sure his needs are met. Your boss sounds like a child in a grown up's body. And the manipulation seems to be working if you feel bad for him instead of feeling slighted.
The touching....

When I had to put my dog down last year I would have been completely incapable of working that day. Luckily I didn’t have to but if I did, I’d have had to take a sick day because I was crying inconsolably. The grief that many people feel after the death of their dog can be very deep and traumatic. Have some compassion for a person who clearly feels more deeply than you do.
You should
