There is no community in consumerism

So many fall into the trap of buying material goods to fill a hole that exists somewhere in their lives. The temporary pleasure of purchasing that new toy will quickly wear off and that hole will still be there. No amount of clothes, shoes, cars, or makeup will fill that gaping void in your life. The companies whose sole existence is to make you part with your money by making you believe that you must have this latest piece of consumer garbage. Guess what? As soon as you no longer have any money to spend, they no longer want to be your friend. They will look for some newer demographic based buddy to try and sell their useless tech bauble to and you will be out in the rain wondering what you did wrong. I guess what I’m trying to say is please don’t think that you will ever be able to buy your way to happiness. Instead, use your money to do some good in this world. Help a relative or close friend that needs a hand or even do something kind for a stranger in need and maybe that void in your life will start to fill up.

But people who need something and get things from you, are basically the same as the corporations you decry.
Once they don't need you any more,if you are tired of the taking,or if you run out of assets that they have guilted you into giving them- you are no longer needed.
Then you will be thrown away.and they will move onto the next victim.
Worry about yourself, and let others dig themselves out of the holes they've gotten themselves into.
And don't worry about being labelled as "selfish", as those who will do so,only want what you have.
I like to spend money

Consumerism, I'm okay with it.
people can bond over things (ie. common interests)

there are communities based around material goods. People geek out over specific car types (details, driving, rebuilding), on records (trading, sharing, crate digging), sneakers (talking about, comparing, trading), all sort of shit that yes, may require spending money sometimes. dog forbid that someone has an interest in something that requires money and suddenly find out that there are other people out there with the same interests that you can socialize with.
have fun walking around the woods alone or working in a soup kitchen whatever the fuck you do that is 100% free all the time and makes you feel superior.
Its sad

how easily sold people are on the consumer dream. I have friends and co-workers who can barely pay rent, but are always lusting after Chanel shit and other designer brands. I dont get it. But then again I dont get a lot of shit these days. I guess if it makes you happy, by all means. But why the fuck do young people need designer clothes?
