Incentives

The increase in minimum wage makes me less interested in learning a skill or trade. Why go to school to make 20 bucks an hour when you make 14 no matter what you do? This might sound strange, but at least for me this kind of takes away the incentive to get a better job.

Really? Are you sure?

You would be content to make $26,880/year before taxes? That’s what $14/hour is in terms of annual salary. $20/h = $38,400 before taxes. Still an unliveable salary in pricey Vancouver.

The living wage in Vancouver is $20/hr. So unless you live at home or inherited a fortune somehow, minimum wage is a rough go in this city.

Your work is more than a source of cash, it’s also a source of confidence, pride, satisfaction, identity and self-worth.

If you earn a degree you could potentially make more than $20.00 an hour depending on your career choices.
I have no problem with this

We need people for every job, not just highly educated ones. People working minimum wages work just as hard, and sometimes even harder in worse working conditions. If that's what makes you happy, good for you. Everyone should have a livable wage no matter the job you do. As long as you work and contribute to society, you deserve to have a decent life with your basic needs met just like everyone else.

It's unimaginable to me that you see that $6 as negligible. If I got a $6 per hour raise I'd be over the moon, and I make 55K a year.
