Saving thousands of dollars in therapy

Sometimes when I walk up and down the street, I talk to myself. I don’t mean to. It’s a habit that I can’t help and need to cut. I wonder if people out there must think I’m schizophrenic.

I do believe you’re covered in this current bluetooth age.If you’re schizo you still pass for normal, along with millions doing essentially the same thing.

... heard of a psychiatrist who advised patients to carry a cellphone so that they could talk to their voices---"No, I don't want a fucking coca cola!"
If you wear one of those earbud things, turned off, the ones with the mic, nobody will think you're doing naything but talking on the phone.
Also, the real mental illness here is caring too much about what strangers think.
Anyone who cared about you would go 'Oh, that's X, he talks to himself, we all have our little things."
Why do you care what strangers think?

I tend to argue with people in my head when I don't feel comfortable confronting them in real life.
Something I've been trying to do lately is focus on my surroundings when I'm walking (the coloured leaves on the ground are great for this), breathe, clear my head, and guide myself back to the present when the battle starts up again.

However feckless against the tide of tinnitus can come across as crazy. Then again 45 years of relentless crickets is a form of madness King George could chime in on

They probably just think you're on your phone. Everyone looks crazy nowadays.

You are not alone on this. I have full on conversations and answer question back to myself. Anyone who does notice will most likely think you have a hands-free device you are using. I wouldn't worry about it.
You're fine. And perfectly normal!

I read somewhere recently that talking to yourself out loud is a good sign. It can help in problem-solving as speaking words gives more shape and definition to thoughts. A minute ago I Googled it and yeah, you're fine. So am I. When I'm riding my bike I'll get on a bit of a roll, lecturing myself, and then another cyclist will pass me. I'm never sure how long they were behind me, and how much of my monologue they might have heard, so after they pass me I'll sometimes yell out, "I'm not crazy!" Ironically that probably makes me sound like I'm really crazy. And besides, everyone's walking around talking on some bluetooth device anyway, so no one even blinks at it anyway.

They just think you're on the phone with an earpiece. Not to worry.

I didn't really know about it - I'm a senior - and I used to wonder who these people were talking to! Now I get it haha
That’s a good thing…
