I've been there; don't stress it. For a long time I wasn't a smiler (although now I am) and so I understand why people don't want to smile. Smiling to appear nice was the last thing I wanted to do back then, and I certainly wouldn't impose that expectation on others.
I also think people can tell the difference between a non-smiler and someone who's "evil, snobby or aloof" as you put it, so don't worry about appearing that way, it's probably obvious that you're not.

@........... You are obviously not nearly as intelligent as you think you are. The O.P. stated that he/ she was unhappy and preferred ' SPACE AND SOLITUDE' . What do think those words mean? It is clear that this person likes to be alone. That's quite unselfish when you think of it.
