A new locally based Indian fast-food chainlet is preparing for a rapid expansion across the Lower Mainland.

Down near English Bay, Horn OK Please is gearing up to open in a 750 square foot space that will seat up to 25 people at 1162 Denman Street (in the former location of Falafel and Friends) by July 1.

While the name may sound curious to those unfamiliar with South Asian culture, it comes from a phrase displayed on commercial vehicles in India, such as trucks, which encourages drivers honk their horn to indicate when they are attempting to pass by.

Colourful and casual, this fast food–style eatery will offer a menu specializing in Delhi street food.

By phone chef and co-owner Rahul Verma, who hails from Delhi, said they chose the location for the area's popularity with tourists, and he explained that all items on the menu will be up to $10 each.

Small bites (from $4.99 to $6.99) include samosas, vegetable pakoras, and aloo tikki (potato patties).

He said that this West End location will specialize in naan wraps called kathi rolls (from $5.99 to $9.99), which will range from vegetarian options such as paneer (grilled Indian cottage cheese with pickled onions) or aloo masala (potato curry) to meat-based choices like butter chicken or malai chicken tikka (grilled marinated chicken in cream, herbs, and spices.

Meanwhile, among the six curries on offer ($9.99 each) are chana masala, butter paneer, lamb curry, and chicken korma, as well as rice bowls and naan.

It'll also be convenient spot to pick up an Indian drink before heading the beach, as there are three types of lassi (yogurt-based drink), as well as masala chai, shikanji (Punjabi-style lemonade).

Verma said that this will only be the first of three locations that they're planning to open within the next two months. The next one, which is preparing to open within the next two weeks, will be located on Hornby Street at Pacific Street. It'll then be followed by a third at SFU in Burnaby.

He said that they are seeking to open future locations as franchises as well.
