Chupito is hosting a one-night-only mezcal dinner

On September 9, Chupito Cocteleria will host the Los Siete Misterios Exploration Dinner, a one-night-only event pairing four mezcal expressions with a four-course menu from chef Maria Ponce.

Karina Mair, Los Siete Misterios’ lead advisor for Canada, will lead guests through the evening’s pours, sharing the stories, production methods and regional character behind each bottle. The featured lineup includes Doba-Yej, Ensamble Cuishe, Ensamble Mexicanito and Ensamble Tepeztate.

If your mezcal vocabulary starts and stops at “smoky,” this dinner offers a chance to add a few more words.

The night starts with a cocktail hour and passed canapés before moving into the four-course dinner, with each dish created to complement one of the featured Los Siete Misterios expressions. Cocktails from Tara Davies and Erick Vazquez bookend the meal, including a welcome drink at the start and digestif cocktails to finish.

Founded by brothers Eduardo and Julio Mestre in 2010, Los Siete Misterios works with maestro mezcaleros to produce spirits rooted in traditional methods while taking a contemporary approach to mezcal. The brand has picked up plenty of attention along the way, including being named the number-one top trending brand in Drinks International’s 2025 mezcal rankings.

Chupito, meanwhile, is no stranger to agave. The Mexican-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar began life as a tucked-away Gastown spot in 2021, then earned Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition the following year. In 2025, it moved into its current Yukon Street home, giving its agave-heavy cocktail program and Mexican-inspired food menu a little more room to stretch out.

Davies’ bar program has also become known for its low-waste approach, finding creative uses for kitchen byproducts and ingredients that might otherwise be discarded. Basically, very little at Chupito gets wasted, particularly when it can become a cocktail.
