A casual restaurant at one of Vancouver’s heritage buildings wants to increase its outdoor seating.

CRAFT Beer Market has filed a development permit application with cityhall to expand its patio.

The restaurant, which claims to house western Canada’s largest selection of craft beers, is based at the historic Salt Building in Olympic Village.

According to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, the original Domtar Salt Building was constructed in 1931.

As its name implies, the facility was a salt processing plant.

Following the decline of the salt trade, the building stood empty before it was refurbished before the 2010 Olympics, according to the Vancouver Heritage Foundation.

According to the City of Vancouver, the development permit application for 85 West 1st Avenue will enlarge the existing outdoor patio by around 1,207 square feet.

The project will add approximately 68 seats.

“The Patio is a seasonal patio and will only be operational in conditions where the weather warrants the patio use,” CRAFT Beer Market wrote in a letter to the city.
