Three BC restaurants make Air Canada’s top 10 list

We probably never thought we’d be taking restaurant recommendations from an airline. Then again, we probably never thought we’d be taking restaurant recommendations from a tire company, either.

But just as the Michelin Guide has become the most important authority in the global culinary world, Air Canada has become the go-to for the very best in Canadian cooking. Its in-flight magazine EnRoute’s yearly Best New Restaurants list, which sees judges flying and tasting from coast to coast, has just been announced, and three BC spots made the top 10.

Coming in at number seven is Folke, a plant-based restaurant in Kits that my partner described as the best meal of his life (true story!).

The number-three spot goes to Victoria’s Marilena, the newest addition to the Toptable Group family of high-end restaurants. Focusing on seafood, it’s elevating Vancouver Island’s burgeoning fine dining scene. We visited the restaurant earlier this year; read our review here.

Wild Blue in Whistler claimed the number-two spot.

And snagging the second-place spot is Wild Blue Restaurant + Bar in Whistler. Helmed by chef Alex Chen (a Canadian Iron Chef formerly of Vancouver’s Boulevard), it celebrates the best of Pacific Northwest fare through seafood, game, and seasonal vegetables.
