Vancouver Tacomio disciples get more bad news as remaining two locations closing immediately

Two months after shuttering its North Van restaurant, Tacomio has announced the closing of its remaining two locations in Strathcona and UBC.

The announcement was made on Instagram, with the lingering fallout of COVID-19, rent hikes, high government taxes, staffing shortages, and escalating food costs all playing a role in the decision.

The post starts with, “Today, we reach out with a heart full of emotions to share a significant change. With deep sadness, we must announce that all Tacomio branches are closing their doors permanently, effective immediately.”

Tacomio first launched in Gastown nearly a decade ago, building a reputation for street-style Mexican food at wallet-friendly prices. The closure of the North Van location came after news that the chain restaurant behemoth Chipotle would be moving in on the opposite corner.

While the remaining two Tacomio restaurants will be missed, there’s at least one potential bright spot. After announcing the news on Instagram, the family team behind Tacomio wrote: “Though this chapter closes, our spirit of adventure and creativity remains alive. Keep your eyes on this space—we’re excited about future projects and hope to bring new experiences to in the future. Stay connected with us.”
