Is it too soon to be decking the halls and stocking up on mulling spices? Well, maybe—Halloween hasn’t even showed its Jack-o-lantern face yet—but it’s never too soon to start thinking about your festive plans.

On November 18 and 19, Homes for the Holidays will be taking over UBC’s Cecil Green Park House to showcase festive decor ideas as imagined by professional florists, home decor retailers, and five award-winning interior designers: Jamie Hamilton and Greer Nelson of Oliver Simon Design; Cece Krescy and Natasha Isaak of Little White House and Co; Phyllis Lui and Aleem Kassam of Kalu Interiors; Megan Baker who runs a self-titled company; and Annaliesse Kelly from AK Design.

Outdoors, the Terrace of Trees will see an assortment of arbours dressed up by designers. The terrace is also home to a selection of silent auction items.

All proceeds from the event will go to support the Take a Hike foundation, which empowers youth with outdoor experiential learning, community, and counselling. The program operates in 11 school districts across BC, with over 1,000 current youth and alumni; it provides a mix of academic support with trips to the outdoors and the wilderness, along with volunteering, to build a strong sense of community.

“This year we are thrilled to be returning to a modified live event within a single venue at the prestigious Cecil Green Park House,” say co-chairs Toula Favreau, JoAnn Harrington, and Barb Lunter in a statement. “Throughout the event you can expect to be dazzled by the creativity of hand-picked top interior designers and by the incredible floral displays from the best of our city’s floral community.”

In addition to the event, Homes for the Holidays are partnering with Hilary Miles Flowers to offer festival handmade wreaths, with proceeds also going to Take a Hike.

Finding out how to go beyond green and red for the holidays, while raising money for a good cause? Sounds pretty dang merry.
