The Metro Vancouver chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is launching its annual campaign aimed at preventing impaired driving.

This is the 28th year for the organization’s Project Red Ribbon initiative in Canada.

The red ribbon is also intended to serve as a tribute to people who have been killed or injured as a result of drunk driving.

According to the organization, between 1,250 and 1,500 Canadians are killed and more than 63,000 people are injured each year in impairment-related crashes.

As part of its campaign, MADD Metro Vancouver is encouraging residents to: plan ahead and know when you’ll be drinking; never drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver; and to call 9-1-1 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.
