A handful of Vancouver’s top chocolatiers will be converging at an East Van kitchen and cookware emporium next month for a sweet evening.

The Gourmet Warehouse (1340 East Hastings Street) will be hosting its seventh annual Chocolate Challenge on May 2 (6:30 to 9 p.m.), which is a highly anticipated fundraiser that features many mouthwatering chocolate creations.

The city’s top chocolate and pastry chefs will work alongside their protégées to come up with the most delicious and unique confections in a bid to win the challenge—which essentially means being able to take home bragging rights for creating the best chocolate of the night.

This year’s judging panel consists of many well-known names: Christophe Bonzon from Chez Christophe, Thierry Busset from Thierry, Thomas Haas from Thomas Haas, Steven Hodge from Temper Pastry, Greg Hook from Chocolate Arts, Danny Capadouca from Okanagan College, and Jeffry Kahle of Fairmont Pacific Rim.

In addition to sweet treats, attendees will have access to food stations, gourmet silent auction items, and a live auction. Raffle tickets will also be sold for other eye-catching prizes.

Proceeds from the Chocolate Challenge will go towards three local children’s meal charities, each working hard to increase access to healthy food for kids: the Vancouver Firefighter Charities’ Snacks for Kids program (supplies a daily healthy snack to at-risk student across Vancouver), Project Chef (teaches students about healthy food and how to cook it), and the Strathcona Backpack Program (provides children with nutritious snacks and meals on the weekend when they don’t have access to school lunch programs).

Tickets ($79 per person, plus taxes) can be purchased online.
