The final three home cooks competing for the top spot on MasterChef Canada have been revealed, and a B.C. competitor is among them.

On the June 5 episode, the contestants were challenged to make an entrée inspired by their culture and background.

Matthew Astorga presented quail adobo with puffed wild rice and quail egg, Mary Berg served pan-seared quail and cornmeal sweet potato waffle (inspired by family vacations to South Carolina), Veronica Cham created a dish of braised brisket with hand-pulled noodles and pickled cucumber, and Jeremy Senaris offered kare kare, a Filipino oxtail stew with peanut butter and rice cake.

Berg won the challenge, and the other three faced a salt-water pressure test involving three dishes made of scallops. At the end of the challenge, Toronto's Veronica Cham was eliminated.

The finalists, who will compete for the title and $100,000 cash prize, are:

      • Matthew Astorga, from Pitt Meadows, B.C.

      • Jeremy Senaris, from Winnipeg, Manitoba

      • Mary Berg, from Toronto, Ontario

The season's final episode will air on Sunday (June 12) at 7 p.m. The cooks will have to create plates from 13 ingredients from each Canadian province and territory and will have to serve it to 13 of Canada's top chefs.
