My friend is a single mom of 2 under 5s, on social assistance (in a foreign country where the benefits are pretty solid). She hasn't been to the dentist since she left Canada almost a decade ago and has had issues with broken teeth and severe jaw pain. She has managed to squirrel away a nest egg and keeps talking about taking her kids traveling. I have begged her to put the money into a dentist visit as I think it's a really bad sign she had such pain with her broken teeth last year, but now feels nothing. She agreed it was the practical choice, but seems determined to book a trip. She does travel about once a year on her parents' dime, so it isn't that she never goes away.
It boggles my mind how she could jeopardize her health and the future of her children for something so frivolous. SMH.

Benefits are solid? Even in BC, we get dental coverage if we're on assistance, although it's limited and the rates are lower than what most places charge.
Maybe...

They have dental anxiety which keeps them from going even if they had coverage/could afford it
Just because

She is not like you leave her alone she has her reasons - take some time to look inwards and judge yourself and be a better person rather than being judgemental.

AFAIK only children on assistance get dental, adults do not unless they're on disability.
