Disgusted

I recently watched a documentary about Milawi and how happy the people are there, faced with such intense struggles, and me here, standing in line to buy groceries at Whole Foods, feeling miserable about how long it's taking to work off my gut, and thinking about baby Trudeau wanting to bail out Texas billionaires. We're so fucked.

The most reasonable explanation...milawi food aid

... is that they eat a better diet than we do. The people who like to take advantage of nobles and royalty have long perfected the art of feeding them crap food that tastes good. So one brother is Cook, the other brother is Physician, and the third brother is Priest. Without the cook feeding bad food to the King, he has no need of the Priest (for he knows he has no sins, those being things that malnourished people believe in) and he has no need of the Physician (for he is healthy).

I just went on Wikipedia to read about Malawi: infant mortality rates are high, and life expectancy at birth is 50.03 years. Abortion is illegal. There is a high adult prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS. There are approximately 27,000 deaths each year from HIV/AIDS, and over half a million children orphaned because of the disease. There is a very high degree of risk for major infectious diseases, including bacterial and protozoal diarrhoea, hepatitis A, typhoid fever, malaria, plague, schistosomiasis, and rabies.
Yep, sounds like heaven to me...

You should be grateful. Feeling miserable that you are fat? That’s your problem.

Fear this

The first world has everything, and thus everything to lose.
Most people of means (which is everyone in the first world, relative to Malawi and the other 4 billion humans in lower-tier economies) live in fear of losing what they have. Also why so many are obsessed with getting more. It's a hole of terror, that can never be filled.
Those who have little to lose, haven't much to fear. Their problems are more immediate, like daily survival.
Thus why you're worrying yourself crazy at Whole Foods. Malawi would be absolutely THRILLED to host a Kinder Morgan pipeline, though they would want a modest cut of ongoing operations to keep their lights on. Or turn them on in the first place, as may be.
