Only rent to women

Not only is this not viable, as if everyone did it, a revolution would ensue, but it also shows another way that women have it way easier than men.

Think again.

Rental ads that say they'll "only rent to women" are a huge red flag. The landlord/landlady may SAY that they only want to rent to women because 'they're cleaner and quieter' but it actually may be because women are easier to intimidate and less likely to complain or take legal action when the landlord/landlady breaks the terms of the Residential Tenancy Act by raising the rent unfairly, entering the apartment/house without appropriate notice, refusing to do repairs, trying to charge extra for services that were included in the lease (i.e. shared laundry or parking), inappropriately asking for personal information like social security numbers (think identity theft), making sexually suggestive remarks or making unwelcome advances. Some landlords/landladies have even proposed a 'sexual services in exchange for rent' scenarios to tenants or have tried to pressure their tenants into romantic relationships (after the tenants have gone to the time and expense of moving in, of course, in order to make it extra difficult to say "No".) Take it from a woman who has rented for over 20 years in different cities throughout Canada – "Women only" rentals are a huge red flag in terms of tenant safety and security, not an indication that women somehow "have it easier" than men when it comes to housing. Thinking otherwise is just naive.

And you will never see a woman, or feminist oppose a double standard that strictly benefits them. How strange...

Oh yeah

Have you seen how many housing ads are men asking women to trade sex for housing? It puts women in very vulnerable positions if they need to submit to sexual acts they otherwise wouldn’t want to keep a roof over their head.

Oh yeah...we have it "way easier" than men.

LOL.

Trust me, no one has it "easier" on either side of the spectrum. Nevermind the in between

Just because some people are wanting to rent to women exclusively - there are likely some real and tangible motives for their reasoning.

Such as:
-Previous abuse from a male individual

-If the landlord is male, they may be used to objectifying women, and plan to do so by having one live in their home - further fanning their ego and feeding their misogynist views.

If there isn't a real reason, they they are sadly mistaken if they believe women make better renters/roommates than men. Women can be just as messy, loud and flakey as men.

This is the mysgynist belief system that leads to killing women in the street yet somehow seeing yourself as the victim. Can you imagine a woman having to live with you? I'm sad you haven't had enough therapy yet but grow the eff up.

If you could choose your gender, would you rather be a man who can't rent one of these "women only" apartments, or a woman who is renting a "women only" apartment where she is bullied, harassed, and extorted?

Why can't cis men just tell prospective landlords/landladies that they identify as women, and then sue for discrimination when they can't get the apartment? It's 2018, after all.

Unless you’ve talking about someone renting out rooms in their house, I have rarely seen any ads that specify that. If I was going to rent out a spare room in my place (I’m a woman), absolutely I would not rent it to a guy. Not because I think they’d be messier or anything, but purely for privacy and security reasons. I think most single women would feel the same. Also, if someone is renting out a few rooms and they already have female tenants, they may be concerned about their privacy and security as well. Unfortunately, this IS a reality that we female people have to deal with all the time. I feel badly for the good guys but there are just too many of your gender that aren’t good guys.
