Moving to America

It is actually nothing like what I thought it’d be. Everyone is friendly... unlike Vancouver and Toronto. People smile, flirt, and are talkative. What’s going on with Canada?

It's Constitutional...

... Canada does not have freedom of speech. USA does. Freedom of speech is an essential part for the proper adjustment of the human body and personality, without freedom of speech you will wither and die. So, in Canada, the only people who thrive are those who happen to be naturally conformed to the speech codes that we now labor under, which get worse and worse every year.

In USA, this is mostly confined to Universities. There are also a lot more law schools and lawyers in USA, and in USA there is a culture of defending all speech---they certainly have not always won, but in USA they make so many lawyers that you will generally find some lawyer who is principled and willing to stand up for free speech rights. Plus you will have Judges who believe in free speech, because in US Universities you have free speech, so the Judges were not educated in a tyrannical environment like UBC or SFU where unelected bureaucrats, not independent judges, decide the limits on freedom of speech.

People who don't study the issue don't know how bad it is. US circuit courts have recently decided, for example, that in 'he said she said' sexual harassment cases in a University, the accuser must be cross-examined, to sustain the complaint. What this means is that a very basic due process right has been denied for pretty much all of the history of these policies---you get to cross-examine your accuser, because the goal of a trial is to find the truth, not to punish the accused, the idea that you fix a trial so that the accused has less capacity to adduce the truth by cross-examination is perverse.

In Canada, AFAIK, at Universities you do not get to cross-examine, so Canada is not even in the same place, in evolution, as USA. At this point, Canada is more like the USSR, in terms of freedom of speech---that is why USA looks so "weird", we're seeing free people, and we can't relate because we're not free people. If we say we are, we're simply lying to ourselves.

You don't sound friendly or smily yourself. Stop the whining. Go away, and let the happy people stay.

What do you think?

well, ok but 63 million of them voted for a corrupt, venal, racist, sexist celebrity buffoon. And the so called "liberals?" Supposedly liberal New York city has the most racially segregated schools in the nation. And don't get me started on segregated neighborhoods. This so called "land of the free" has more people incarcerated per capita than any other nation as well. The dominant political party is made up of people who either want to go back to the 1950s or, if its the South, the 1850s....
Their healthcare system (or lack thereof) is the #1 driver of bankruptcies in the country too. Oh, and that dominant political party I just mentioned? Its also made up of people who read "The Handmaid's Tale" and thought, "hey that looks kind of awesome! Lets's see if we can make this story a reality." And if you've seen the news about Alabama and Missouri.... they're clearly working on it.

But yeah, people " smile, flirt, and are talkative" so I suppose it all evens out.

That's the hard truth the many Canadians don't want to acknowledge.
The people in the States are really friendly to the point it's overwhelming. They have to no problem sharing opinions with you no mater how nutty they are and are entitled to. That's Freedom of self expression. If they just got the guns out of that country it would be a nice place to be.

I’ve noticed the same thing when I travel

Not just the US but every other country is friendlier than Canada.
Never understood why the best country in the world (low crime, good economy. Good health care, etc) has the grumpiest people??

Canadians are.....

...known for being a bit more reserved. We’re also known for being polite and kind. Every culture has characteristics and traits; some good, some not as much. Not to mention that some of us are very friendly, so try not to generalize.
