Working from home

I am one of the lucky ones, no loss of income, working in a well paying recession proof job. But because of COVID-19, the employer requires all staff to work from home, five days a week, with no end in sight. With such a tenuous connection to the work environment, and strained relationships with some friends and family over COVID-19, and the lack of control in my life (our lives are now dictated by an appointed health care official) I have little motivation to work. She says, go outside. I can barely motivate myself to even get exercise outside. So honestly, most days I just log in to work each day and go right back to bed.

So blame-y

Yeah, you listen to the health care official because PANDEMIC.
It’s not her or anyone else’s fault you can’t motivate yourself to work or exercise for yourself.
You may have depression and may not want to admit it, and find it quicker and easier to blame others. Seek professional help, call the 24 hour crisis line, go walk outside. Everyone’s world is 1/1000 of what it used to be but we have ways to still be connected and get fit.

When we're in a war with a virus. Wartime dictates a suspension of democratic principles until the battle is won.

Employers don’t really have a choice when it comes to doing the right thing In this situation. I’ve worked from home many times in my life for several companies. Working from home means that you’re still WORKING. What you’re doing is completely wrong and shows that you shouldn’t be an employee of that company at all. Employers have to give up control when their employees work from home, and what you’re proving is that you’re a child who needs to be constantly supervised and they should not trust you at all. Grow up!

My partner is more exhausted than when he biked into the office. On average he works two pretty solid hours extra per day. No leisurely coffee breaks or extended paid lunches. One of his crazed micro managers demands a daily check -on call around 4:00 to review what progress has been made. Ouch. I guess depending on your job, deadlines are becoming less soft.

I'm in a similar boat, OP, except that I'm the one killing myself to try to maintain pre-pandemic levels of productivity while it's clear no one else from my office is even online most of the day. This isn't happening because I'm okay, but rather because I'm so terrified of ending up jobless in this, especially now that my mom and some extended family are dependent on my income.
But what happened? I actually got told to do less, even just log off for hours at a time, because my productivity was stressing everyone else out about how little they are doing.
In other words, I suspect you'll get away with this just fine. It does sound like depression, too, so if they ever came for you, you could maybe retro a sick leave? Anyways, you have my compassion, these are hard times and feeling demotivated is a natural response to a traumatized world where we don't know what normal will be anymore. I hope you can give yourself permission to rest and recharge, and then maybe you'll even find yourself wanting to achieve something work-wise once you're in a less stressed space.
