Breaking up is hard to do

I broke up with my girlfriend last week all because she let mommy dearest control her life.

It’s tough to make the decision to part ways with people who are trauma bonded to others. But so often the toxicity is a contagion of sorts and the parasite can find ways to hurt us via the person we care about.
Don’t set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.

I told you to clean your room, now I find you shitposting on the forbidden website?
No buttered scones for you, come tea-time.

I had a narcissistic mommy dearest and she annihilated ALL of my relationships .
A little meddling here, a little meddling there, lying and gaslighting made for a total disaster.
I’m really very happy you removed yourself from this relationship.
The best is yet to come. XO

Which is natural. She has taught me well. Well enough so one day when I'm in control I'll do my best to save the world...and every receipt
Maybe she wanted to break up with you

But didn't have the balls to do it directly, so she made the situation shitty enough (via her mom) that you'd end it.
My point exactly

Couples deserve to have their space and privacy stock, lock and barrel. Crazy family members who stick their noses into a couple's business are often at fault for the breakdown in relationships. If that girlfriend of yours let her mommy make decisions for the both of you, then she has no one to blame but herself. She made that choice. You may been tangled up in a web, but at least you read between the lines and put a stop to it. It takes a lot of courage and strength to end it now before things get worse. It's empowering to cleanse your life of useless garbage once and for all. Keep your head up high, walk away with dignity and live your life. You got this. Good luck, my friend.
Yikes

Good thing this relationship didn’t go very far otherwise you probably would have been miserable for the rest of your life. Had you two gotten married, you would have filed for divorce. The last thing you want is to be a downtrodden husband coming home to a useless wife, let alone mother in law telling you where to spend your money or how to raise your kids. Be glad that you ditched her and embrace your single life. Your ex and her ma can just have each other. Who needs them.
