If you love food but don’t always have the patience to sit down and enjoy a multicourse meal, this year’s Dine Out Vancouver Festival has curated some other culinary options for you.

The 18th annual food-and-drink extravaganza is offering a handful of interactive cooking classes, which range from making tasty dumplings to shucking fresh oysters.

Here are three hands-on events to check out at Dine Out 2020.

      Dine Out Vancouver

Chinatown Dumpling Masterclass (156 East Pender Street)

To get a sense of how authentic dumplings are made, you have to start with the roots. This dumpling-making class begins with a one-hour tour of Chinatown, followed by a two-hour workshop that shows you how to make Chinese dumplings using creative ingredients. You’ll leave class with a newfound appreciation for these Asian bites, as well as a recipe to take home.

      When: January 19 to February 2; Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday to Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m.

      Price: $128.75 per person

      Dine Out Vancouver

Shucking Class at Fanny Bay (762 Cambie Street)

It’s easy slurping down a few dozen fresh oysters in one go, but have you ever thought about the amount of work it takes to prepare a tray of them? Learn how to shuck oysters from Fanny Bay’s renowned shucking team, while sipping on craft cocktails. Educate yourself with six varieties of oysters, where the night’s motto will be: shuck, slurp, repeat.

      When: January 20 and 27, 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Price: $119.73 per person, for guests 19 years and above.
