After three weeks, vaccine-mandate protesters are finding out what it's like when riot cops move in.

Yellow-vested police entered an ornery mob screaming "hold the line" and started hauling them away.

Protesters tried to dissuade the officers by putting children at the front of the line but that didn't work.

"The children will be brought to a place of safety," police tweeted.

Ottawa police also tweeted that protesters were assaulting officers and attempting to remove their weapons. To help gain control, police arrived on horseback and entered the crowd to create some space.

"As this was happening a bicycle was thrown at the feet of one of the horses in an attempt to injure it," police said over Twitter. "One person was arrested for intentionally harming a police service animal."

The police Twitter feed also periodically updates the number of arrests and vehicles towed.

The latest figure is more than 100 arrests and 21 vehicles removed from the streets.

One of those who cheered on this protest, Plaid Army podcaster and former soldier Jeremy MacKenzie, delivered an angry diatribe against police on his Instagram feed, complaining that they were breaking windows and assaulting people.

MacKenzie also slammed Conservative MPs Pierre Poilevre and Candace Bergen for remaining silent in the face of what he considered to be police brutality.

Meanwhile, the government is intent on stopping the flow of money to the demonstrators for the protests, which have been declared illegal.

"We are today serving notice: if your truck is being used in these protests, your corporate accounts will be frozen," Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said yesterday.

"The insurance on your vehicle will be suspended. Send your semi-trailers home," she added. "The Canadian economy needs them to be doing legitimate work, not to be illegally making us all poorer."
