Six food & dining events

Uncooking class
You won’t need a stove at Radha Yoga & Eatery (728 Main Street) next Sunday (November 2) for a class on how to prepare raw cuisine. Chef Patricia Ganswind will make spreads and nut milks and give instruction on soaking and sprouting. The class starts at 11:30 a.m. and costs $40; call 604-605-0011 to register.

Drafts and drams
Although it’s not until November 11 to 16, events at this year’s Hopscotch Festival at the Rocky Mountaineer Station (1755 Cottrell Street) are selling fast. Tickets for Friday’s Grand Tasting Hall ($40), where over 200 beers, scotch, and other spirits are up for tasting are gone, but Thursday’s still has space. These plus satellite dinners, seminars, and brewery tours are available at www.hopscotchfestival.com

Interactive supper
Not only can you meet people and enjoy a three-course meal, you can learn how to make it at Urban Fare in Yaletown (177 Davie Street). On upcoming Wednesdays (October 29 and November 5) at 6:30 p.m., chef Frank Abbinante will whip up dishes like Dungeness crab and avocado salad and baby back ribs while you watch. The cost is $29.99; call 604-975-7556 to register.

Dim sum fun
Sunday’s Celebrity Dim Sum (October 25) at Floata Restaurant (400–180 Keefer Street) benefits the Asian Society for the Intervention of AIDS and features local celeb emcees Fred Lee and Dawn Chubai. The dim sum servers are Vancouver foodies including chefs Rob Feenie, Tina Fineza, and Angus An. Live entertainment and auctions round out the fun. Tickets are $65 at 604-669-5567 and www.asia.bc.ca/dim.html

Halloween’s a wrap
Those who regularly drive by Kits Beach may have noticed the countdown on the sign: after 14 years at Yew and Cornwall, the lease is up for Malone’s Bar and Grill (2210 Cornwall Avenue). There’s now just a week to go until the closing bashes. Tickets are $50 for the October 31 Halloween party and $125 for the November 1 final-day farewell; for info, call 604-737-7777.

Wine and dine
One of B.C.’s fave winemakers, Tinhorn Creek Vineyards’ Sandra Oldfield, is back in town to showcase her just-released 2005 Oldfields Collection at a pair of relaxed, interactive multi-course dinners ($95). Le Gavroche’s Wednesday (October 29) event is sold out, but there are still tickets for the dinner at North Vancouver’s Moustache Café (129 2nd Street West, 604-987-8461) next Thursday (October 30).
