Here’s one event you won't be shamed for having garlic breath. And you probably won't find any vampires in attendance either.

The Richmond Garlic Festival, presented by the Sharing Farm Society, is will hold its decennial edition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday (August 19) at Terra Nova Rural Park (2771 Westminster Highway, Richmond).

Over 1,000 pounds of the locally grown aromatic bulb (which is a species in the onion genus and related to leeks, chives, and onions) will be available on sale, including varieties such as Russian red or purple Italian softneck.

Participating restaurants and chefs will include the Passionate Baker, Thick Cuts, Nomad Restaurant, the Wooden Boat, Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel's American Grille, Westin Grand Hotel's Hendricks Restaurant, Hyatt Regency's Mosaic Grille, Blue Heron Creamery, and River Rock Casino Resort.

Exhibitors will range from B.C. Garlic and Maddock Ridge Garlic to Sweet and Savory Pastries and West Coast Seeds.

Anyone up for a scoop of garlic ice cream?

Meanwhile, a new partnership with the City of Richmond has allowed them to expand for their 10th year, and among this year's highlights will be expert bird handlers with flying demonstrations of local birds of prey.

There'll also be workshops, farm tours, live music, and children's activities.
