It's not where you come from that matters

What matters is where you're headed. I made some pretty big mistakes in my youth. I've done a lot of drugs and 10 years ago I even escorted for quick cash. After life smacked me in the face and I woke up to reality, I cleaned my act up. Today, I'm in busting my ass in grad school so I can help other lost souls. People are so quick to judge others on their past, but nobody is prone to making mistakes in life. What matters is what you decide to do with them. To all those out there who once fucked up royally but are now bettering yourselves -- I commend you.

Past performance is never indicative of future results, but people love to judge as if it is.

Just returned from visiting a relative who attained multiple graduate degrees and had a successful technical career. At one point, she abandoned all sense and destroyed her body, losing much of her sanity in the process. Amazing accomplishment - she didn't even have a chemical habit to help her (not counting tobacco). This culminated in a stroke, and she is now permanently disabled.

Recent choices matter far more than any in the distant past. Sounds like you've done well.

It's always what you make it, and you made your present and likely future pretty good. Best wishes, and try to ignore judgy idiots (always a wise choice).
