Are office workers sort of like battery-caged chickens?

I am starting to envy the chickens. I go to work, slave away, come home and get ready for the next day of work. I don't even get a chance to enjoy a vacation. One day, maybe. I'm skeptical though. I think we need labour laws that are enforced.

... do you want? I mean, min. wage was supposed to be enough for a single wage-earner to support his family, back when it was introduced---so, I dunno, VanCity says the "living wage" is $20/hour for 2 parents working full time with two kids.

So, are we going to have a min. wage of $40/hour?

People would laugh at this, but I remember my first independent tech job, as a contractor, way back in like 2000. I was going to charge $30/hour, which I thought was _tons of money_. The guy mentoring me, really I was his subcontractor, just laughed and said he'd give me $80/hour, because he was billing $120/hour for the work, _in 2000_. And this wasn't even complicated work, it was typical windows business software bullshit.

The whole purpose to labor law was to ensure that every worker would be able to have a family, time to enjoy life, etc. Today labor law like the "minimum wage," well, it's not even enough to have an indoor pot to piss in, in Vancouver.
