I find it a joke how some companies advertise their dress shoes as "vegan leather"...umm...that's called synthetic/man made/pleather!!!! Stop trying to use "vegan" to sell your shoes and stop trying to make it sound like it's of high quality cuz dress shoes that are not made of leather are usually not durable or long lasting!!!!

Pleather sucks

I had three pleather jackets that turned to shit after less than a year of wear. I ponied up for a real leather jacket from the 60's and it looks great and feels like it will last another 60 years.

My vegan doc martens boots squeaks. It makes me sound like an old tire. I wish I had trusted my animal instincts and gone for the non-vegan leathers.
Fuck Pleather

It’s garbage and isn’t biodegradable. There’s nothing vegan about it as far as I’m concerned. However, labeling things “vegan” doesn’t sell products because people are terrified of that label. It’s like they’re aftraid to do the right thing and feel automatically judged by people who are.

Not sure what your problem is. Vegan literally means "does not contain animal products", so they are accurately describing them that way (kind of like veggie dogs/hamburgers, etc.).

Real leather is without question the best material for anything that you want to last. Not to mention that it moulds to your feet and allows some ventilation. I’m fed up with having to pay exhorbitant prices for footwear that probably cost a few bucks to produce, and where the manufacturer is paying the workers pennies in comparison. Unless you happen to be among the very few wealthy people who can afford the real thing, you’re stuck with the crap.

how many vegans there are who own leather shoes, bags, belts and jackets? Just wondering...

I am a vegan who owns leather. I haven’t bought new leather since becoming vegan and I think it’s ludicrous to throw out perfectly good leather that I’ve had for years. I still buy second hand leather as it does not support cruelty and it lasts a lifetime as opposed to that fake plastic crap that ends up in the landfills.
