Needy Neighbour
posted June 28th, 2020 at 1:31 PM
I have a neighbour that is constantly asking for favours or just wants to hang out. When we do hangout she won’t leave. She just makes more and more plans so I can’t escape. Because if Covid she can no longer pay her rent and has to move. I must confess, a week ago I couldn’t wait for her to be gone but she’s actually the only thing that gets me out of my house or interacting with anyone. What will happen to me now? It’s scary to think about.

compassion on display here wow.... someone tried to befriend you and you are pleased they can't pay their rent and have to move?!? I notice you don't spare one word on whether they have a place to move to or if they are going to be ok.... but oh dear "What will happen to me now"??? For real? Who cares. Doesn't sound like you are losing your home, just a friendly neighbor you don't appreciate or care for - maybe you should try to find your humanity again, try the library lol

Your anger is not needed.
I see your point of view, but maybe it's a different meaning than what you interpreted. It might be a good idea to look at yourself and see what you're doing wrong while you're remaining anonymous. I used to be you, angry, but I'm working on that using this as one of the methods. I'd rather be happy than angry so I can be approachable in the world....have friends...have fun...get laid...
In short, I interpreted that as the neighbour has a clingy personality and the original poster couldn't see passed that. A human fault. I've done it, I bet you've done it in your life where you find someone too clingly and you just want them to go away. Later, you realize the value of that relationship and begin to miss it. The original poster saw the light at the tunnel at the end and that gives her at least 30 more points for feeling empathy towards the neighbour. Life lesson was learnt here. Why would you want to screw that up for her?
OP: You'll pull through! You know what to do next time :)

Relax. She is moving out of town to be with family and friends. She’s going to be fine and is happy. I’m happy to be free from being asked for things that are unreasonable and being pressed to hang out for too many hours. You’re not in the situation so you can’t judge it based on the minimal info I shared. There’s a lot more to it that I don’t care to elaborate on.

You have no right to tell people when they should feel anger or insight into why they reacted the way they did in the first place.
You sound like someone who centers themselves inside other peoples despair and calls it progress. I guess as long as you're learning at the expense of others that's all that matters.

All these comments telling each other how to interpret things or to relax or not be angry.... isn't the point of these public confessions for everyone else to weigh in with their hot takes and interpretations? So meta haahahahhahahaha

A red flag word that narcissists use. They label people as needy when they want to control the people they interact with and feel they're losing that control. Look it up, it's true.
Great advice?

No sorry, empathy should never be self-serving.
Empathy certainly doesn't seek to silence.
It's no shock the world is in the state it is, with people not allowing others to at the bare minimum feel the way they do.
Nothing to see here, just more empty citizens of the world.

Neediness is also a trait that exists in the suite of codependent behaviour patterns. Let’s not use narcissistic labeling as a cop-out for everything.
