Craigslist Jerks
posted July 31st, 2020 at 10:52 PM
I've been having a tough time the past few months, like many other people. I recently mustered enough energy to do some organizing in my apartment. Rather than throw stuff in the dumpster, which would have involved very little time and energy, I opted to take pictures of various items and post them on Craigslist. One of those items was an old painting that used to mean a lot to me. It kind of hurts to look at, so I had to get rid of it; too many memories. I posted it on Craigslist under 'free stuff' and received an email from someone within a day. I spent a lot of back and forth time with this person to organize pick-up. On the scheduled day, I waited and waited around for hours. I emailed again to say "Where are you?" Her response was so casual: "Oh, I lost track of time. Can I come in 45 minutes?" Are you f***ing kidding me? Have some respect. Learn some manners. That painting is now in the dumpster; you don't deserve it. Craigslist people are the goddamn worst.

Craigslist European penpals are the worst.

Keep receipts.
You might need them one day.

That's the last thing I would do. Unfortunately most up f the thrift store will reject your donations because of bedbug fear.
Been there done that
Instead of the dumpster

Maybe do some good with your cast offs, and donate them to a thrift shop that is associated with a charity.
Value Village is an American corporation that makes a Billion dollars a year but gives NOTHING of that to charity. You know how the Big Brothers picks up your stuff? Well they sell it to V V for almost nothing, who then turn around and sell it at 1000% mark up.
Donate it to the SPCA, or a Cancer society instead.

Sounds pretty typical, I don't see the problem. With free stuff, people usually just leave it in a specified spot so that it can be picked up when convenient. Why do you need to meet someone face to face if they are just picking up your trash?
Not all

Yes, there are some people who don’t respect other people’s time. But there’s also lots of people who do. I have given away lots of stuff on CL, and my rules are simple. Whoever responds first is number one on the list, and I give them a date and time to show up. I tell people that they’ve got to be there on time or I’ll go to the next person on the list. If your item is a good one, trust me, people will show up. I posted my last item in the middle of the night and I had over 10 people reply almost immediately, and by the next morning there were too many replies to even deal with. The item was gone by noon. In future you could get them to confirm that they’re on their way beforehand. Definitely don’t judge everyone who uses CL by the bad behaviour of a few.

Have to laugh considering the OP is actually a Craigslist person.

People need to very wary of picking up free stuff from strangers. The MO of some thieves (not to mention rapists and murderers) is to use this as an opportunity to make a victim of people. I've seen the results too many times...

Live at Metrotown, advertising camcorder,1 year old, asking half price more than fair. Woman in Mission, asks if can get an extra $10 off, OK whatever. Then she asks if I can deliver and if I could possibly "gift" it to her for her kid's birthday party.
People don't show up. Giving away magazines, guy parks 2 blocks away and TELLS me to come drop them off...60 pounds worth. I tell him to come to the address, he refuses so then I told him to F off, and then he gets mad that I "wasted" half an hour of driving.
If you have something for sale DO NOT deliver it,as they will then offer you half of what you were asking thinking you will accept and won't want to waste your time.
Also don't meet them "half way", that "half way" point is actually at their home, they're lying just to make you deliver it.
If they want something, they can dam well come to your place.

That only works if the person lives in a single-family dwelling, is comfortable leaving their cast-offs on public property, or is even capable of moving the item in the first place. I live in a condo. I wouldn’t dream of leaving my stuff sitting anywhere that is going to bother other people, or that could result in me being fined for dumping! That’s what it’s called by the way. If you just park your junk anywhere that’s not your own property, you’re illegally dumping, and that’s really inconsiderate.
